Nominees for the Alumni Executive 2006/2007
November-16-06
A Description of the Nomination and Election Process
Each November
the Alumni Executive Committee will be nominated and elected from the alumni
registered on the Alumni web site. There will be 2 positions elected per year,
each for a 3-year term. Candidates for the Alumni Executive Committee are
nominated by one of two processes.
·
The current
Alumni Executive Committee selects candidates to fill the vacancies left by
retiring committee members.
·
Additional
candidates may be nominated by any three Members.
It is the Committee’s
intention to create a fair process for all candidates. Below is a description of the nomination and
election process.
1)
The Alumni
Executive Committee nominates candidates who have the skills and attributes the
Committee requires, and ensures that all vacancies on the Committee will be
filled.
2)
Members may
choose to nominate additional candidates.
Nominations require the consent of the candidate, and the approval of 3
other Members.
3)
Nominations
must be received by Friday, November 10th, 2006. A list of names and
a brief biography of all candidates is then posted on the alumni web site.
4)
Alumni
registered on the alumni website then vote via email from November 20 to 26,
2006. Independent scrutineers will tally
the votes.
A REQUEST FOR A BIOGRAPHY
The Alumni Executive Committee is required to post a list of
the names of all candidates and a brief description of each candidate on the
Alumni web site.

Alumni Executive Committee? Please limit
your biography to 300 words.
Sarah Byrd
I became a student at Collingwood in 1985 and
graduated with honours in 1995. I served as Head Girl in my graduating
year. I enjoyed my time at Collingwood and would love the opportunity to give back to
the Collingwood Community by sitting on the Alumni Executive Committee and
encouraging alumni participation and networking.
Since graduating from Collingwood, I obtained a Bachelor of
Science Degree from the University
of Victoria. While at UVic, I served as the Lieutenant
Governor for Kiwanis. After UVic, I
spent some time traveling and have lived in New York,
Colorado and Toronto.
For the past several years I have been pursuing a career in sales within
the consumer packaged goods industry.
Currently, I am a key account manager for SunOpta Canadian Food
Distribution Group, a natural foods distributor. My job requires some travel but also has a
great deal of flexibility, which will allow me to be available for various
commitments relating to the Alumni Executive Committee position.
I have had the opportunity to serve my community by
volunteering with various non-profit community organizations throughout the
region and believe that I demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to be a
strong and participating member of the Collingwood Alumni Executive
Committee. I have volunteered for the
North Shore Family Services, the Canadian Cancer Foundation, the Salvation
Army, St. Monica’s Outreach Program and the Coalition to Save Eagleridge
Bluffs.
I look forward to potentially serving on the Collingwood
Alumni Executive Committee.
Alexis Assoignon
Hi
everyone! Since graduating in 2002, I have been working on getting my BCom in
finance and International Business from UBC. During the Summer I usually work
and try to go traveling when I have the chance. In 2003, I went backpacking
around Europe and last year I went on exchange to a university in Paris for 10 months. It
was a wonderful experience and I was definitely encouraged to participate in it
because I had such a great time on my Collingwood exchange to Australia in 2000.
I recently returned to Collingwood for a visit and was
really excited by all the positive changes. Everyone at the Morven campus
seemed happy to be there and the school had a great atmosphere. Looking back at
my own Collingwood experience, I can say that I definitely enjoyed myself. As a
member of the Alumni Executive, I would like to make sure that we all keep in
touch and continue to have fun together and create new memories long after we
graduate. Through events in Vancouver
and abroad, alumni can continue to feel part of the Collingwood community. I
would like to work on increasing membership and attendance at events, such a
class reunions, because the more people come, the more fun everyone will have.
It is always interesting to see what other alumni are doing, which classmates
have changed and which ones have stayed the same. As a member of the Executive,
I would like to work on maintaining the closeness we all shared at school and
extend it into our diverse futures.
James Clendenan
James Clendenan is a graduate of the Class of 2002 and has
recently returned to Vancouver after the completion
of his computer engineering degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
He has been actively involved with
projects related to both alumni and students using social networking technologies
including group sites and community driven forums such as podcasting and social
media sites for both work and volunteer groups.
As a Collingwood alumnus, he has been involved for a number of years
assisting with some of the recent initiatives in the school including the
notebook computer program for staff, and a number of musical performances. As a member of the alumni executive, he hopes
to further assist the school and its alumni by helping to create a strong community
where people can connect and keep in touch through both in-person and virtual
events.
