Richard (Dick) Beer
1944 - 2009
We regret to announce the passing of Richard (Dick) Beer, on December 24, 2009. Beloved husband of Angela and loving father of Tina and Jonathan, Dick passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dick
and Angela were founding parents of Collingwood School and their
children were the first students enrolled at the school. Dick was also
a founding governor and served on the Board of Governors for the
school’s first four years. He will be forever remembered as the "human
jukebox” and for the amazing Fawlty Towers dinners that he and Angela
hosted, raising thousands of dollars for the school in its early years.
Long after Dick retired from the Board
and Tina and Jonathan graduated from Collingwood, the Beer family
continued to support Collingwood. Most recently, Tina served as Chair
of the Alumni Association from 2006 - 2008.
Our
sincere condolences go to Dick’s loving family - his wife, Angela,
daughter, Tina Hamlin ‘93 (David), and son, Jonathan ‘95 (Kiara). A
celebration of Dick’s life will be held at St. David’s United Church on
Taylor Way in West Vancouver on January 12th at 2pm. The family has
requested that no flowers be sent but that donations to the Lions Gate
Hospital Foundation in Richard’s name would be greatly appreciated.
